Steve Coogan was born on October 14, 1965, in Middleton Lancashire to Kathleen, a housewife and Anthony Coogan, an IBM engineer. He was raised along with four brothers and one sister in an upper working-class family that mainly focus on the values of education.

His elder brother Martin is the lead singer of the rock band, The Mock Turtles, and younger brother, Brendan presented Top Gear. Coogan went to cardinal Langley Roman Catholic High School. He spent a very happy childhood when he learned about the values of teaching from his family.

Coogan was interested in acting since his childhood. He has the talent of impersonation and therefore, he applied to several drama schools and received a place at the Manchester Polytechnic School Of Drama.

Coogan started his career as an impressionist and comic. He used to perform in Ipswich regularly before appearing as a voice artist for advertisements and satirical puppet show Spitting Image.

In 2010, he collaborated with director Michael and actor Rob Brydon (with whom he worked in 24-hour party people and A Cock And Bull Story for the improvised version of BBC2 sitcom The Trip.

He performed well on screen, including Vignettes Of Jim Jarmush 2003 film Coffee And Cigarettes. In 2006, he starred in Michael Winter Bottom’s A Cock And Bull Story, Unfilmable, a novel-based film by Laurence Sterne.

He got his breakthrough role in drama-comedy Philomena, which he produced and co-wrote and starred alongside Judy Dench. He won Golden Globe nomination and earned many wins too. His film Philomena won him Academy Award for best picture.
