LL cool j was born on 14th January 1968 in Bay Shore, New York. To Ondrea Griffith and James Louis Smith Jr., he was raised in a middle-class family and spent a miserable childhood as he saw his father killing his mother and grandfather.
He started rapping at the young age of nine years only. He was inspired by the hip hop group the treacherous three. At the age of sixteen, he started demo tapes at his grandparent’s home.
