Early life
Lionel Richie was born on June 20, 1949, in Tuskegee, Alabama to parents Lionel Brickman Richie Sr. and Alberta R. Foster. He went to Joilet Township High School, where he was a star tennis player and also got a scholarship to attend the Tuskegee Institute from where he got the degree of Bachelor of Science in economics.
Once he also decided to become a priest in Episcopal Church but later he changed his decision and focused on his musical career. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi A National Honor Fraternity.
Personal life
Richie married Brenda Harvey his college girlfriend in 1975. In 1983, the couple adopted Nicole Camillie Escovedo and raised her as their daughter Nicole. Richie started dating Diane Alexander in 1988, while he was still married to Harvey.
The couple divorced in 1993 and Richie officially married Diane Alexander in 1995 and welcomed a son in 1994 and daughter in 1998. The couple ended up their marriage in 2003.

Richie was fond of music from a very tender age. In 1960s Richie as a student, created a succession of R&B groups and became a saxophonist and singer with the Commodores.
