Early Life

Khabib Nurmagomedov was born on September 20, 1988, in the village called Sildi in the Russian SFSR, the Soviet Union and then he moved to Makhachkala the capital city of Dagestan. He is the second among the three children including an elder brother Magomed and a younger sister Amina.

His father moved to Kirovaul along with his family and there he converted the ground floor to the gym. Nurmagomedov was raised in a household along with his siblings and cousins. He had numerous street fights at his young age. His interest in mixed martial arts developed watching the students getting trained at the gym.

He started wrestling at the early age of eight years. His father used to train him who is a veteran of the army and a decorated athlete.

During his training, he also wrestled a bear at the age of nine. He got training from Machackala from the age of twelve and then continued his training from the age of fifteen in judo. At the age of seventeen, he started training in Combat Sambo under his father.

Nurmagomedov told in an interview that it was not easy to transit himself from wrester to judo fighter. But his father’s wish for him is to compete in a gi jacket. His father is still training the national Combat Sambo Team at the republic of Dagestan in Makhachkala.

Khabib Nurmagomedov married in 2013 and welcome his daughter in 2015 and a son born in 2017. Khabib and his family are practicing Islam and he is a devout Sunni Muslim. He used to wear Papakha hat during promotions and after fights.

In 2016, he founded the Eagles MMA Team, his team. Besides this, he is a real fan of Liverpool FC and Real Madrid and Anzhi Makhachkala.


Khabib started his career professionally in 2008 through his first fight in MMA. He earned four victories within a month, although three of them were achieved within a day.

Khabib won the inaugural atrium cup tournament championship in 2009 in Moscow. He won around 12 matches, including his win at m1 global in the same year.

During 2014 and 2015, he canceled several matches due to multiple injuries and health issues. He made a comeback with a fight against Darrell Horcher at UFC in 2016.
