Akon was born on April 16, 1973, in st. Louis Missouri to Kine Gueye Thiam, a dancer, and Mor Thiam, a percussionist. In reality, he was inspired by his father and learned to play instruments like guitar, djembe, drums, and others. He moved to Union City, New Jersey at the age of seven. He was trying hard to divide his time between Senegal and the United States until moving to Newark, New Jersey.
