Joseph Ward Simmons, known also as Reverend Run and DJ Run, was born in Queens, New York and was raised in the middle-class area of Hollis. He is the younger brother of Russell Simmons and painter Danny Simmons, an entertainment entrepreneur and founder of Def Jam Recordings. His dad, Daniel, worked for later and the borough’s school system as a professor as an attendance manager.
